Do you offer stain removal advice?

We're the laundry gurus; of course we can help with your stains! We recommend stocking your laundry room with a bottle of our Stain Remover Spray, a bag of Oxygen Whitener, and a Laundry Stain Brush to handle most stains. For specific stain tips check out our Stain Guide, your simple and safe guide to stain removal. Download it here: https://mollyssuds.com/pages/stain-central/

How do I resolve hard water laundry issues?

Our Super Powder was formulated to work great in hard water. For our Original Laundry Powder, the magic chemistry with very hard water is HOT water and 1/4 cup distilled white vinegar. You can add the vinegar directly to the drum before the wash and into your fabric softener dispenser cup. Vinegar works as a mild acid and helps to dissolve the minerals in hard water. It's also an excellent, all-natural fabric softener!

Laundry Detergents

What is the difference between Super Powder and the Original Laundry Powder?

Both detergents are natural and effective. Apart from the different scents, the major difference is that our Super Powder is a finer granular and contains active enzymes which help to eliminate tougher stains, making this detergent a laundry room essential for heavily soiled loads! Our Super Powder was also 3rd-party tested safe for sensitive skin. If you love our Original Laundry Powders, we suggest pairing them with our Stain Spray for pre-treatment.

My Original Laundry Powder is hard, what happened?

Our Original Laundry Powder can harden in the bag, even before the pouch is open. Even though there may be some clumping, it is still 100% safe to use! If the pouch hasn't been opened yet gently drop it against a hard surface or hit softly with a rubber mallet to loosen. Our Original Laundry Powder is made with only the most simple ingredients and does not have an anti-caking agent. We recommend keeping the pouch tightly sealed or transfer to an air tight container to prevent clumping. The product is 100% safe to use and effective. Our new Super Powder detergent has an added food-grade ingredient (Maltodextrin), that helps to prevent the fine powder from sticking together, but we've kept our Original Laundry Powder with the fewest and most simple ingredients possible.

Do I add your detergents to my dispenser cup or directly into my drum?

Our powder detergents work best when placed directly into the drum of your washing machine. Liquid detergents can be placed in the detergent dispensing cup or directly into the drum, as well!

I can't find my scoop. What is the measurement for the laundry detergents or Oxygen Whitener?

Our Original Powder scoop is equal to 1 TBSP and our Super Powder scoop is equal to 2 TBSP. For a small load, we recommend using 2 TBLS of our bleach alternative booster, Oxygen Whitener, and up to 4 TBLS for a larger load. Your scoop has likely settled to the middle or bottom of the pouch, if you're feeling adventurous you can dig around to locate it.

When I open my washer, I don't see any bubbles. Where are the suds?

We use safe, low-sudsing surfactants in all of our detergents, so don't be alarmed if you can't find any bubbles in your wash! Did you know that excess suds can actually make your clothes dirtier? Too many suds create a foamy barrier that prevents the soap from being able to access and clean your dirty laundry. A thin film of residue is often left behind. Sudsing also can inhibit the High Efficiency washing machine sensors from working properly, causing incomplete rinse cycles, extra wear and tear on your machine, and expensive part replacement.

I just started using your detergent, and I am noticing suds in my wash. Is this normal?

Yes. While our laundry detergents do not have any chemicals that cause sudsing, they do get into the fibers and release build up from previous detergents and fabric softeners. It's amazing how many chemicals are left behind in the fibers of your clothes from other detergents that are not clean rinsing. As the build up is released, you may notice sudsing from the previous products used. It will stop after a few washes. You may also notice certain odors come out of the clothing. This is because of the synthetic musk companies use to mask odor, even fragrance free versions of detergents. 1/4- 1/2 cup distilled white vinegar in your fabric softener dispenser will help to release the build up and reduce static. Old stains can also show as yellowed spots when the previous detergent build up is removed. We suggest soaking whites and lights in Oxygen Whitener and using Stain Spray in arm pits and ring around the collar.

Why doesn't the Original Laundry Powder dissolve all the way?

A very minute amount of the naturally occurring minerals mixed in with the active ingredients in our powder detergents will not dissolve completely in water. Those minerals help adjust the pH and they just rinse away while others will dissolve with the agitation of the laundry and the machine. We do recommend very warm to hot water with our Original Laundry Powder.

Is it safe to use the Original Peppermint Laundry Powder while I'm pregnant/with my newborn's clothing?

All of our products can be safely used while pregnant and are safe for newborn clothing. However, our Original Laundry Powder does contain a very small amount of organic peppermint essential oil. To be specific, it contains less than 1% in the whole formula, so you're using even less than that per scoop! We do recommend unscented for infant clothing and for those with peppermint allergies, but our detergents are residual-free and do rinse clean.

Can I use the powder detergents in cold water?

You can, but it performs better in warm and hot water. Did you know that all detergents work best when the water is at least 70F; this is the minimum temperature recommended to remove dirt from fabric and maximize the efforts of your washing machine and detergent choice. Though liquid detergents are best suited for cool cycles, you can dissolve your scoop of Original Laundry Powder or Super Powder, first, in a cup of extremely warm water before pouring the solution into the drum of your washing machine.

Which detergent is best for reusable diapers?

We recommend washing reusable diapers with our Super Powder, as well as with our Oxygen Whitener booster! The active enzymes in our Super Powder help to eliminate tough stains and our Oxygen Whitener prevents and eliminates dinginess. The Oxygen Whitener also removes the odor in fibers by releasing it with the power of hydrogen peroxide and oxygen.

Which detergents are safe for silk, wool, and all other delicate fabrics including some dry clean only garments?

We recommend our Delicate Wash, SWIM™, and All Sport for silk and other delicates. We also suggest following the care label instructions.

Oxygen Whitener

Does the Oxygen Whitener "bleach"?

Our Oxygen Whitener does not contain bleach. It whitens and brightens through it's #1 ingredient: sodium percarbonate! Sodium percarbonate is an adduct of sodium carbonate and hydrogen peroxide. When you add water, this compound releases oxygen. (That's why it fizzes!) As this happens, the stain (and overall dinginess) is broken down and lifted off of the fabric. Neat, huh?

Can I use Oxygen Whitener as a stand alone product?

Depends on how you are using it. It is not a laundry detergent, rather a laundry additive or booster. You can use it along with your favorite Molly's Suds laundry detergent to boost the whitening power and to remove hard water minerals. You can use Oxygen Whitener alone as a laundry soak or paste for stains or to remove mineral buildup in your laundry. After a soak you do want to follow up with a regular wash cycle with laundry detergent.

How can I use Oxygen Whitener in a carpet cleaning machine?

Add a scoop of Oxygen Whitener to the water compartment of your carpet cleaner for extra brightening power. (Do NOT do this on wool carpeting or silk rugs.)

How can I use Oxygen Whitener to clean my toilet bowl?

Sprinkle Oxygen Whitener into the toilet bowl and allow to sit, dampened, in the bowl for several minutes. Now, scrub away those stubborn stains!

Liquid Laundry Detergents (SWIM, Delicate, All Sport)

Can I use SWIM™ and/or Delicate Wash in the washing machine? How do I measure the detergent for a small, delicate load?

Yes, they can both be used in a washing machine or for handwashing. For handwashing, we recommend using about a tablespoon (or .5 ounce) of SWIM™ or Delicate Wash in the sink. For gentle or delicate cycles in your machine, we recommend using 2 tablespoons for a small load, 4 tablespoons for a medium load, and 6 tablespoons for a large load.

Is All Sport meant to be used alone or as a booster?

The All Sport is a specialty product with pure plant enzymes and is sold as a stand alone product. It is designed to work on TOUGH odors and stains in performance wear fibers, such as your athleisure and athletic wear. This formula destroys the odor causing bacterial cell wall making it lose strength and rinse away. It works great on mold, dirt and sweat too! It does work great as a stain pre-treater along side the Original Laundry Powder.

Stain Spray

How long should the Stain Remover Spray sit before being washed?

We recommend at least 15-20 minutes for the enzymes to start working on the stains, but it can sit on the fabric until it's washed even if that's at a later date.

What do I do for really stubborn stains?

The quicker you attack a stain the better your chances of removing it completely. You should remove a stain fully before drying the garment and it doesn't come out completely, re-treat. A stain may set if it dries. We offer our Stain Spray in a travel size for those stains that happen when you are on the go! Some stains are so stubborn that they may require a little extra TLC. For our expert stain advice please visit our Stain Guide and look up the specific type of stain you are fighting for our tips and tricks! https://mollyssuds.com/pages/stain-central

Can I use your Stain Spray on furniture, carpets, or rugs?

Yes and no! Our Stain Spray is safe for use on most all fibers but we do recommend you test a small inconspicuous area first for color fastness and fiber resilience. It is very concentrated and thick so it should be rinsed from the fabric so you may have to blot the furniture several times with clean water and allow it to dry. Please note that this stuff is SO good that the spot you are treating may end up cleaner than the rest of the furniture, making you want to wash your entire sofa, chair, or rug! You've been warned!! Always spot test in an inconspicuous area first.

Wool Dryer Balls

How many Wool Dryer Balls per load should I use? Why would I need them?

We recommend starting with 3 Dryer Balls, we sell them in sets of 3 and 6 in natural unbleached wool and AZO-free black dyed wool. We recommend our Certified Cruelty-Free 100% Wool Dryer Balls for natural softening of your laundry and a 15-30 % reduction in your dryer cycle which reduces the wear and tear of your laundry and extends the life of your clothes. Average loads can use 3 balls for effective results and for larger or heavier loads (like towels and sheets) we recommend 6 or more dryer balls. They will not eliminate static, but they save energy and they really do soften laundry. To eliminate static, we recommend adding 1/4 cup of vinegar to your fabric softener dispenser OR pinning 2 very large safety pins to any two items in your dryer, like two mismatched socks. Wool Dryer Balls are an effective, natural alternative to fabric softening dryer sheets, which contain synthetic fragrance and toxic chemicals that can get absorbed into our bodies and pollute the air.

I have a wool allergy. Can I still use Wool Dryer Balls?

Nope. Always play it safe. They are triple washed, fragrance and dye free and they do not shed, but they are not 100% free of lanolin nor guaranteed not to cause a reaction.

My Wool Dryer Balls got soiled. Can I wash them?

Yes, you can! Put the soiled ball in our Large Mesh Laundry Bag and toss it in the washer with a load of sheets (you can wait until you need to change the linens) and run the washer as usual. Dry the ball out in the direct sunlight for a few hours. It will naturally whiten it. Then toss it back into the dryer.

Are your Wool Dryer Balls cruelty-free?

Yes, they are Certified Cruelty-Free by Leaping Bunny! They are hand wound in Nepal and the company supports women with a fair wage and childcare when they need it! We source New Zealand wool due to the quality and availability. It’s humanely sheared from sheep that are not harmed by the shearing practice and the sheep are not chemically dipped. The wool comes from family farms who treat their animals with respect. Sheep grow wool continuously. If they are not sheared at least once a year, they become very stressed and uncomfortable, especially when it is hot and humid. Approximately 90% of the world’s sheep produce wool. One sheep can produce anywhere from 2 to 30 pounds of wool annually.

Do your Wool Dryer Balls reduce static?

No, it's a common misconception that wool dryer balls will reduce static. Here are some tips to help fight static naturally: https://mollyssuds.com/2019/12/16/tips-for-fighting-static-naturally/

All Purpose Cleaner

Can I use the All Purpose Cleaner on my _______?

Our All Purpose Natural Cleaner is ideal for all hard, non-porous surfaces. Use on countertops, tables, tiles, oven exterior and interiors, refrigerators, bathtubs, sinks, and more! For best results avoid using on quartz as it can cause some mild streaking. To minimize streaking wipe over the dried surface with an Organic Flour Sack Towel to give the surface a lint-free shine.

What about Does All Purpose kill germs?

Our All Purpose Cleaner is not antibacterial, but the CDC recommends to first clean a surface before disinfecting it. This product not only can prepare a surface to be disinfected, but in our own homes, we do not need to kill every germ. By properly cleaning the surface you are removing contaminants and damaging the cell walls of the contaminants left on the surface. This prevents them from effecting our health and they become unable to live in hours.

Dish Soap

Can I use your Dish Soap in my dishwasher?

No, our Dish Soap is formulated for handwashing only.

Room Deodorizing Spray

Can I use the Room Deodorizer on fabric?

Yes, always spot test prior to use.

How does the Room Deodorizer work?

The ingredients in our Room Deodorizer capture odor molecules from the air and drop them to the ground, leaving only a fresh scent in the air. They neutralize the odor by absorbing the water molecules out of the odor causing scent.

Sink SCRUB

What type of sink (surface) can I use Sink SCRUB on?

If you can safely use baking soda on your surface you can use Sink SCRUB to clean it also. The primary ingredient in Sink SCRUB is baking soda and can safely clean stainless steel, porcelain, quartz, granite, soapstone, copper, and glass. Always check the manufacturer's recommendations for the surface you are trying to clean.

How and where can I use the Sink SCRUB?

Any surface that you would clean with baking soda can be cleaned with our Sink SCRUB. It's safe for a variety of surfaces around your home, such as:

  • Sprinkle in toilets and bathtubs to help you quickly scrub away mineral deposits, grime, and soap scum!
  • Scrub burned on grease in pots and pans. For best results, add a generous layer over the burned grease, then wet the powder thoroughly with white vinegar. Allow it to sit for up to 30 minutes, then wipe away!
  • Generously sprinkle over carpet stains and odors. Allow it to sit for several hours before vacuuming up the powder and the odors!
  • Sprinkle in smelly shoes or the bottom of your garbage can to eliminate odors!
  • Burned on grease or cheese from homemade pizza!
  • Great for the dish disposal!
  • Do you cook in stainless steel or cast iron? This is the easiest way to clean your pan. Rinse thoroughly and then apply a safe cooking oil after the pan is dry to prevent rust!

Dish Brush & Replacement Head

How do you replace the head of the Dish Brush?

When your Dish Brush starts to look a little ragged it can easily be replaced with a new scrubber head. The metal prongs will pull out from the base of the handle (pull really hard, they can be stubborn sometimes) and the ring around the brush head will loosen. Simply replace the head and put the prongs back into the handle. You can place your old head in the compost bin!

What else can I use my Dish Brush on besides dishes?

Our Dish Brush works great for the following uses:

  • Vegetable and potato scrubber
  • Cleaning your sink surface with Sink SCRUB
  • Scrubbing food from dishes so you keep your hands clean
  • Reaching the bottom of that water bottle, cup, or vase

The possibilities are endless!

Hardgoods

Why doesn't my flour sack towel say certified organic?

Great question! We decided on minimal tags for our towels to reduce labor costs. We import them under the GOTS North American standards from a European supplier and because we import a small amount per year we are not registered in the system but we do receive an updated GOTS Certificate belonging to the company that makes them for us with every order. As our orders increase we will be able to have our own certificate! Remember our ingredient integrity is why we exist and our Organic Certified Flour Sack Kitchen Towels are just one more reason to love Molly's Suds!
